The political party that defends your right to own guns, keep your income, and worship freely is probably not the party to fear.

Low Hanging Fruit

The premise behind Low Hanging Fruit is that there are Democrats who are vulnerable, and, with the right organization, can be defeated. The test for Low Hanging Fruit consists of a combination of the following:

  1. The congressman or senator is more liberal than the district or state they represent.

  2. The congressman replaced a Republican in the backlash elections of 2006 or 2008.

  3. The congressman or representative in these districts or states is a supporter of Obama program.

The analysis may be flawed, critically, irreparably, totally flawed, but I think not. Elections follow ebbs and flows locally as well as nationally. Katrina was one such event that changed elections in 2006. Iraq, pre-surge, and the economy governed the 2008 election. Individual events rarely immediately change the character of a people.

While the liberals are in control and appear to be rapidly changing the political landscape, I suggest that it is a short-lived boom, one that could easily fizzle before the 2010 election. America is not as liberal as the Obama administration, Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid. The Republicans screwed up, no doubt, but it did not convince the nation that socialism was the solution to our problems. Poll after poll on individual topics from abortion to gun control to national security show that the Democrats do not have the support of the public. Attitudes can be changed by events much less traumatic than 9/11.

Based on these premises, this effort is an attempt to identify offices that conservatives can capture with the right leadership and communication. Of course, if we had the right leadership and communication, we wouldn’t be in this mess. But maybe that can change, too.

So pick a state, any state, and give it shot. The worst that can happen is that I'm wrong.
